2 Chronicles 10

KJV with Strongs (1611 / 1769)

Strong's Interlinear
1
And Rehoboam went{(H8799)} to Shechem: for to Shechem were all Israel come{(H8804)} to make him king{(H8687)}.
2
And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, whither he had fled{(H8804)} from the presence of Solomon the king, heard{(H8800)} it, that Jeroboam returned{(H8799)} out of Egypt.
3
And they sent{(H8799)} and called{(H8799)} him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came{(H8799)} and spake{(H8762)} to Rehoboam, saying{(H8800)},
4
Thy father made our yoke grievous{(H8689)}: now therefore ease{(H8685)} thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put{(H8804)} upon us, and we will serve{(H8799)} thee.
5
And he said{(H8799)} unto them, Come again{(H8798)} unto me after three days. And the people departed{(H8799)}.
6
And king Rehoboam took counsel{(H8735)} with the old men that had stood{(H8802)} before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying{(H8800)}, What counsel give{(H8737)} ye me to return{(H8687)} answer to this people?
7
And they spake{(H8762)} unto him, saying{(H8800)}, If thou be kind to this people, and please{(H8804)} them, and speak{(H8765)} good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.
8
But he forsook{(H8799)} the counsel which the old men gave{(H8804)} him, and took counsel{(H8735)} with the young men that were brought up{(H8804)} with him, that stood{(H8802)} before him.
9
And he said{(H8799)} unto them, What advice{(H8737)} give ye that we may return{(H8686)} answer to this people, which have spoken{(H8765)} to me, saying{(H8800)}, Ease{(H8685)} somewhat the yoke that thy father did put{(H8804)} upon us?
10
And the young men that were brought up{(H8804)} with him spake{(H8762)} unto him, saying{(H8800)}, Thus shalt thou answer{(H8799)} the people that spake{(H8765)} unto thee, saying{(H8800)}, Thy father made our yoke heavy{(H8689)}, but make thou it somewhat lighter{(H8685)} for us; thus shalt thou say{(H8799)} unto them, My little finger shall be thicker{(H8804)} than my father's loins.
11
For whereas my father put{(H8689)} a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more{(H8686)} to your yoke: my father chastised{(H8765)} you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
12
So Jeroboam and all the people came{(H8799)} to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king bade{(H8765)}, saying{(H8800)}, Come again{(H8798)} to me on the third day.
13
And the king answered{(H8799)} them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook{(H8799)} the counsel of the old men,
14
And answered{(H8762)} them after the advice of the young men, saying{(H8800)}, My father made your yoke heavy{(H8689)}, but I will add{(H8686)} thereto: my father chastised{(H8765)} you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
15
So the king hearkened{(H8804)} not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform{(H8687)} his word, which he spake{(H8765)} by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16
And when all Israel saw{(H8804)} that the king would not hearken{(H8804)} unto them, the people answered{(H8686)} the king, saying{(H8800)}, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see{(H8798)} to thine own house. So all Israel went{(H8799)} to their tents.
17
But as for the children of Israel that dwelt{(H8802)} in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned{(H8799)} over them.
18
Then king Rehoboam sent{(H8799)} Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned{(H8799)} him with stones, that he died{(H8799)}. But king Rehoboam made speed{(H8694)} to get him up{(H8800)} to his chariot, to flee{(H8800)} to Jerusalem.
19
And Israel rebelled{(H8799)} against the house of David unto this day.
