Then said{(H8804)} Solomon, The LORD hath said{(H8804)} that he would dwell{(H8800)} in the thick darkness.

But I have built{(H8804)} an house of habitation for thee, and a place for thy dwelling{(H8800)} for ever.

And the king turned{(H8686)} his face, and blessed{(H8762)} the whole congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood{(H8802)}.

And he said{(H8799)}, Blessed{(H8803)} be the LORD God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled{(H8765)} that which he spake{(H8765)} with his mouth to my father David, saying{(H8800)},

Since the day that I brought forth{(H8689)} my people out of the land of Egypt I chose{(H8804)} no city among all the tribes of Israel to build{(H8800)} an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose{(H8804)} I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:

But I have chosen{(H8799)} Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen{(H8799)} David to be over my people Israel.

Now it was in the heart of David my father to build{(H8800)} an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

But the LORD said{(H8799)} to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build{(H8800)} an house for my name, thou didst well{(H8689)} in that it was in thine heart:

Notwithstanding thou shalt not build{(H8799)} the house; but thy son which shall come forth{(H8802)} out of thy loins, he shall build{(H8799)} the house for my name.

The LORD therefore hath performed{(H8686)} his word that he hath spoken{(H8765)}: for I am risen up{(H8799)} in the room of David my father, and am set{(H8799)} on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised{(H8765)}, and have built{(H8799)} the house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

And in it have I put{(H8799)} the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, that he made{(H8804)} with the children of Israel.

And he stood{(H8799)} before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth{(H8799)} his hands:

For Solomon had made{(H8804)} a brasen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set{(H8799)} it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood{(H8799)}, and kneeled down{(H8799)} upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth{(H8799)} his hands toward heaven,

And said{(H8799)}, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest{(H8802)} covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk{(H8802)} before thee with all their hearts:

Thou which hast kept{(H8804)} with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised{(H8765)} him; and spakest{(H8762)} with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled{(H8765)} it with thine hand, as it is this day.

Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep{(H8798)} with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised{(H8765)} him, saying{(H8800)}, There shall not fail{(H8735)} thee a man in my sight to sit{(H8802)} upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take heed{(H8799)} to their way to walk{(H8800)} in my law, as thou hast walked{(H8804)} before me.

Now then, O LORD God of Israel, let thy word be verified{(H8735)}, which thou hast spoken{(H8765)} unto thy servant David.

But will God in very deed dwell{(H8799)} with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain{(H8770)} thee; how much less this house which I have built{(H8804)}!

Have respect{(H8804)} therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken{(H8800)} unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth{(H8693)} before thee:

That thine eyes may be open{(H8803)} upon this house day and night, upon the place whereof thou hast said{(H8804)} that thou wouldest put{(H8800)} thy name there; to hearken{(H8800)} unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth{(H8691)} toward this place.

Hearken{(H8804)} therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make{(H8691)} toward this place: hear{(H8799)} thou from thy dwelling{(H8800)} place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest{(H8804)}, forgive{(H8804)}.

If a man sin{(H8799)} against his neighbour, and an oath be laid{(H8804)} upon him to make him swear{(H8687)}, and the oath come{(H8804)} before thine altar in this house;

Then hear{(H8799)} thou from heaven, and do{(H8804)}, and judge{(H8804)} thy servants, by requiting{(H8687)} the wicked, by recompensing{(H8800)} his way upon his own head; and by justifying{(H8687)} the righteous, by giving{(H8800)} him according to his righteousness.

And if thy people Israel be put to the worse{(H8735)} before the enemy{(H8802)}, because they have sinned{(H8799)} against thee; and shall return{(H8804)} and confess{(H8689)} thy name, and pray{(H8694)} and make supplication{(H8694)} before thee in this house;

Then hear{(H8799)} thou from the heavens, and forgive{(H8804)} the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again{(H8689)} unto the land which thou gavest{(H8804)} to them and to their fathers.

When the heaven is shut up{(H8736)}, and there is no rain, because they have sinned{(H8799)} against thee; yet if they pray{(H8694)} toward this place, and confess{(H8689)} thy name, and turn{(H8799)} from their sin, when thou dost afflict{(H8686)} them;

Then hear{(H8799)} thou from heaven, and forgive{(H8804)} the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught{(H8686)} them the good way, wherein they should walk{(H8799)}; and send{(H8804)} rain upon thy land, which thou hast given{(H8804)} unto thy people for an inheritance.

If there be dearth in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting, or mildew, locusts, or caterpillers; if their enemies{(H8802)} besiege{(H8686)} them in the cities of their land; whatsoever sore or whatsoever sickness there be:

Then what prayer or what supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know{(H8799)} his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth{(H8804)} his hands in this house:

Then hear{(H8799)} thou from heaven thy dwelling{(H8800)} place, and forgive{(H8804)}, and render{(H8804)} unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest{(H8799)};(for thou only knowest{(H8804)} the hearts of the children of men:)

That they may fear{(H8799)} thee, to walk{(H8800)} in thy ways, so long as they live{H6440} in the land which thou gavest{(H8804)} unto our fathers.

Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come{(H8804)} from a far country for thy great name's sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out{(H8803)} arm; if they come{(H8804)} and pray{(H8694)} in this house;

Then hear{(H8799)} thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling{(H8800)} place, and do{(H8804)} according to all that the stranger calleth{(H8799)} to thee for; that all people of the earth may know{(H8799)} thy name, and fear{(H8800)} thee, as doth thy people Israel, and may know{(H8800)} that this house which I have built{(H8804)} is called{(H8738)} by thy name.

If thy people go out{(H8799)} to war against their enemies{(H8802)} by the way that thou shalt send{(H8799)} them, and they pray{(H8694)} unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen{(H8804)}, and the house which I have built{(H8804)} for thy name;

Then hear{(H8804)} thou from the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and maintain{(H8804)} their cause.

If they sin{(H8799)} against thee,(for there is no man which sinneth{(H8799)} not,) and thou be angry{(H8804)} with them, and deliver{(H8804)} them over before their enemies{(H8802)}, and they carry them away{(H8804)} captives{(H8802)} unto a land far off or near;

Yet if they bethink{(H8689)} themselves in the land whither they are carried captive{(H8738)}, and turn{(H8804)} and pray{(H8694)} unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying{(H8800)}, We have sinned{(H8804)}, we have done amiss{(H8689)}, and have dealt wickedly{(H8804)};

If they return{(H8804)} to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives{(H8804)}, and pray{(H8694)} toward their land, which thou gavest{(H8804)} unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen{(H8804)}, and toward the house which I have built{(H8804)} for thy name:

Then hear{(H8804)} thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling{(H8800)} place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain{(H8804)} their cause, and forgive{(H8804)} thy people which have sinned{(H8804)} against thee.

Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open{(H8803)}, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

Now therefore arise{(H8798)}, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed{(H8799)} with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice{(H8799)} in goodness.

O LORD God, turn not away{(H8686)} the face of thine anointed: remember{(H8798)} the mercies of David thy servant.
