After this opened{(H8804)} Job his mouth, and cursed{(H8762)} his day.

And Job spake{(H8799)}, and said{(H8799)},

Let the day perish{(H8799)} wherein I was born{(H8735)}, and the night in which it was said{(H8804)}, There is a man child conceived{(H8795)}.

Let that day be darkness; let not God regard{(H8799)} it from above, neither let the light shine{(H8686)} upon it.

Let darkness and the shadow of death stain{(H8799)} it; let a cloud dwell{(H8799)} upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify{(H8762)} it.

As for that night, let darkness seize{(H8799)} upon it; let it not be joined{(H8799)} unto the days of the year, let it not come{(H8799)} into the number of the months.

Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come{(H8799)} therein.

Let them curse{(H8799)} it that curse{(H8802)} the day, who are ready to raise up{(H8788)} their mourning.

Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark{(H8799)}; let it look{(H8762)} for light, but have none; neither let it see{(H8799)} the dawning of the day:

Because it shut not up{(H8804)} the doors of my mother's womb, nor hid{(H8686)} sorrow from mine eyes.

Why died{(H8799)} I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost{(H8799)} when I came out{(H8804)} of the belly?

Why did the knees prevent{(H8765)} me? or why the breasts that I should suck{(H8799)}?

For now should I have lain still{(H8804)} and been quiet{(H8799)}, I should have slept{(H8804)}: then had I been at rest{(H8799)},

With kings and counsellors{(H8802)} of the earth, which built{(H8802)} desolate places for themselves;

Or with princes that had gold, who filled{(H8764)} their houses with silver:

Or as an hidden{(H8803)} untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw{(H8804)} light.

There the wicked cease{(H8804)} from troubling; and there the weary{H3581} be at rest{(H8799)}.

There the prisoners rest{(H8768)} together; they hear{(H8804)} not the voice of the oppressor{(H8802)}.

The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.

Wherefore is light given{(H8799)} to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;

Which long{(H8764)} for death, but it cometh not; and dig{(H8799)} for it more than for hid treasures;

Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad{(H8799)}, when they can find{(H8799)} the grave?

Why is light given to a man whose way is hid{(H8738)}, and whom God hath hedged in{(H8686)}?

For my sighing cometh{(H8799)} before I eat, and my roarings are poured out{(H8799)} like the waters.

For the thing which I greatly feared{(H8804)} is come{(H8799)} upon me, and that which I was afraid{(H8804)} of is come{(H8799)} unto me.

I was not in safety{(H8804)}, neither had I rest{(H8804)}, neither was I quiet{(H8804)}; yet trouble came{(H8799)}.
