1 Thessalonians 2

KJV with Strongs (1611 / 1769)

Strong's Interlinear
1
For yourselves, brethren, know{(G5758)} our entrance in unto you, that it was{(G5754)} not in vain:
2
But even after that we had suffered before{(G5631)}, and were shamefully entreated{(G5685)}, as ye know{(G5758)}, at Philippi, we were bold{(G5662)} in our God to speak{(G5658)} unto you the gospel of God with much contention.
3
For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:
4
But as we were allowed{(G5769)} of God to be put in trust{(G5683)} with the gospel, even so we speak{(G5719)}; not as pleasing{(G5723)} men, but God, which trieth{(G5723)} our hearts.
5
For neither at any time used we{(G5675)} flattering words{G3056}, as ye know{(G5758)}, nor a cloke{G4392} of covetousness; God is witness:
6
Nor of men sought{(G5723)} we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might{(G5740)} have been{(G5750)} burdensome{G922}, as the apostles of Christ.
7
But we were{(G5675)} gentle among{G3319} you, even as a nurse cherisheth{G2282}{(G5725)} her children:
8
So being affectionately desirous{(G5734)} of you, we were willing{(G5707)} to have imparted{(G5629)} unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were{(G5769)} dear unto us.
9
For ye remember{(G5719)}, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring{(G5740)} night and day, because we would not be chargeable{(G5658)} unto any of you, we preached{(G5656)} unto you the gospel of God.
10
Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves{(G5675)} among you that believe{(G5723)}:
11
As ye know{(G5758)} how we exhorted{(G5723)} and comforted{(G5740)} and charged{(G5734)} every one of you{G5216}, as a father doth his children,
12
{G2532} That ye would walk{(G5658)} worthy of God, who hath called{(G5723)} you unto his kingdom and glory.
13
For this cause also thank{(G5719)} we God without ceasing, because, when ye received{(G5631)} the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received{(G5662)} it not as the word of men, but as it is{(G5748)} in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh{(G5731)} also in you that believe{(G5723)}.
14
For ye, brethren, became{(G5675)} followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are{(G5752)} in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered{(G5627)} like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:
15
Who both killed{(G5660)} the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted{(G5660)} us; and they please{(G5723)} not God, and are contrary to all men:
16
Forbidding{(G5723)} us to speak{(G5658)} to the Gentiles that they might be saved{(G5686)}, to fill up{(G5658)} their sins alway: for the wrath is come{(G5656)} upon them to the uttermost.
17
But we, brethren, being taken{(G5685)} from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured{(G5656)} the more abundantly to see{(G5629)} your face with great desire.
18
Wherefore we would{(G5656)} have come{(G5629)} unto you, even I Paul, once{G530} and again; but Satan hindered{(G5656)} us.
19
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
20
For ye are{(G5748)} our glory and joy.
