2 Chronicles 34

KJV with Strongs (1611 / 1769)

Strong's Interlinear
1
Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign{(H8800)}, and he reigned{(H8804)} in Jerusalem one and thirty years.
2
And he did{(H8799)} that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked{(H8799)} in the ways of David his father, and declined{(H8804)} neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
3
For in the eighth year of his reign{(H8800)}, while he was yet young, he began{(H8689)} to seek{(H8800)} after the God of David his father: and in the twelfth{H6240} year he began{(H8689)} to purge{(H8763)} Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images.
4
And they brake down{(H8762)} the altars of Baalim in his presence; and the images, that were on high above them, he cut down{(H8765)}; and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images, he brake in pieces{(H8765)}, and made dust{(H8689)} of them, and strowed{(H8799)} it upon the graves of them that had sacrificed{(H8802)} unto them.
5
And he burnt{(H8804)} the bones of the priests upon their altars, and cleansed{(H8762)} Judah and Jerusalem.
6
And so did he in the cities of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, even unto Naphtali, with their mattocks round about.
7
And when he had broken down{(H8762)} the altars and the groves, and had beaten{(H8765)} the graven images into powder{(H8687)}, and cut down{(H8765)} all the idols throughout all the land of Israel, he returned{(H8799)} to Jerusalem.
8
Now in the eighteenth{H6240} year of his reign{(H8800)}, when he had purged{(H8763)} the land, and the house, he sent{(H8804)} Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder{(H8688)}, to repair{(H8763)} the house of the LORD his God.
9
And when they came{(H8799)} to Hilkiah the high priest, they delivered{(H8799)} the money that was brought{(H8716)} into the house of God, which the Levites that kept{(H8802)} the doors had gathered{(H8804)} of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin; and they returned{(H8799)}{(H8675)}{(H8802)} to Jerusalem.
10
And they put{(H8799)} it in the hand of the workmen{(H8802)} that had the oversight{(H8716)} of the house of the LORD, and they gave{(H8799)} it to the workmen{(H8802)} that wrought{(H8802)} in the house of the LORD, to repair{(H8800)} and amend{(H8763)} the house:
11
Even to the artificers and builders{(H8802)} gave{(H8799)} they it, to buy{(H8800)} hewn stone, and timber for couplings, and to floor{(H8763)} the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed{(H8689)}.
12
And the men did{(H8802)} the work faithfully: and the overseers{(H8763)} of them were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward{(H8716)}; and other of the Levites, all that could skill{(H8688)} of instruments of musick.
13
Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and were overseers{(H8764)} of all that wrought{(H8802)} the work in any manner of service: and of the Levites there were scribes{(H8802)}, and officers{(H8802)}, and porters.
14
And when they brought out{(H8687)} the money that was brought into{(H8716)} the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found{(H8804)} a book of the law of the LORD given by Moses.
15
And Hilkiah answered{(H8799)} and said{(H8799)} to Shaphan the scribe{(H8802)}, I have found{(H8804)} the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah delivered{(H8799)} the book to Shaphan.
16
And Shaphan carried{(H8686)} the book to the king, and brought the king word back{(H8686)} again, saying{(H8800)}, All that was committed{(H8738)} to thy servants, they do{(H8802)} it.
17
And they have gathered together{(H8686)} the money that was found{(H8737)} in the house of the LORD, and have delivered{(H8799)} it into the hand of the overseers{(H8716)}, and to the hand of the workmen{(H8802)}.
18
Then Shaphan the scribe{(H8802)} told{(H8686)} the king, saying{(H8800)}, Hilkiah the priest hath given{(H8804)} me a book. And Shaphan read{(H8799)} it before the king.
19
And it came to pass, when the king had heard{(H8800)} the words of the law, that he rent{(H8799)} his clothes.
20
And the king commanded{(H8762)} Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon the son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe{(H8802)}, and Asaiah a servant of the king's, saying{(H8800)},
21
Go{(H8798)}, enquire{(H8798)} of the LORD for me, and for them that are left{(H8737)} in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found{(H8738)}: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out{(H8738)} upon us, because our fathers have not kept{(H8804)} the word of the LORD, to do{(H8800)} after all that is written{(H8803)} in this book.
22
And Hilkiah, and they that the king had appointed, went{(H8799)} to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvath{(H8676)}, the son of Hasrah, keeper{(H8802)} of the wardrobe;(now she dwelt{(H8802)} in Jerusalem in the college:) and they spake{(H8762)} to her to that effect.
23
And she answered{(H8799)} them, Thus saith{(H8804)} the LORD God of Israel, Tell{(H8798)} ye the man that sent{(H8804)} you to me,
24
Thus saith{(H8804)} the LORD, Behold, I will bring{(H8688)} evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants{(H8802)} thereof, even all the curses that are written{(H8803)} in the book which they have read{(H8804)} before the king of Judah:
25
Because they have forsaken{(H8804)} me, and have burned incense{(H8762)}{(H8675)}{(H8686)} unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger{(H8687)} with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be poured out{(H8799)} upon this place, and shall not be quenched{(H8799)}.
26
And as for the king of Judah, who sent{(H8802)} you to enquire{(H8800)} of the LORD, so shall ye say{(H8799)} unto him, Thus saith{(H8804)} the LORD God of Israel concerning the words which thou hast heard{(H8804)};
27
Because thine heart was tender{(H8804)}, and thou didst humble{(H8735)} thyself before God, when thou heardest{(H8800)} his words against this place, and against the inhabitants{(H8802)} thereof, and humbledst{(H8735)} thyself before me, and didst rend{(H8799)} thy clothes, and weep{(H8799)} before me; I have even heard{(H8804)} thee also, saith{(H8803)} the LORD.
28
Behold, I will gather{(H8802)} thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered{(H8738)} to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see{(H8799)} all the evil that I will bring{(H8688)} upon this place, and upon the inhabitants{(H8802)} of the same. So they brought the king word again{(H8686)}.
29
Then the king sent{(H8799)} and gathered together{(H8799)} all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
30
And the king went up{(H8799)} into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants{(H8802)} of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, great and small: and he read{(H8799)} in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found{(H8737)} in the house of the LORD.
31
And the king stood{(H8799)} in his place, and made{(H8799)} a covenant before the LORD, to walk{(H8800)} after the LORD, and to keep{(H8800)} his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform{(H8800)} the words of the covenant which are written{(H8803)} in this book.
32
And he caused all that were present{(H8737)} in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand{(H8686)} to it. And the inhabitants{(H8802)} of Jerusalem did{(H8799)} according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
33
And Josiah took away{(H8686)} all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present{(H8737)} in Israel to serve{(H8686)}, even to serve{(H8800)} the LORD their God. And all his days they departed{(H8804)} not from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.
