✦Strong's Interlinear
1
Moreover Josiah kept{(H8799)} a passover unto the LORD in Jerusalem: and they killed{(H8799)} the passover on the fourteenth{H6240} day of the first month.
2
And he set{(H8686)} the priests in their charges, and encouraged{(H8762)} them to the service of the house of the LORD,
3
And said{(H8799)} unto the Levites that taught{(H8688)}{(H8675)} all Israel, which were holy unto the LORD, Put{(H8798)} the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build{(H8804)}; it shall not be a burden upon your shoulders: serve{(H8798)} now the LORD your God, and his people Israel,
4
And prepare{(H8685)}{(H8675)}{(H8734)} yourselves by the houses of your fathers, after your courses, according to the writing of David king of Israel, and according to the writing of Solomon his son.
5
And stand in{(H8798)} the holy place according to the divisions of the families of the fathers of your brethren the people{H5971}, and after the division of the families{H1004} of the Levites.
6
So kill{(H8798)} the passover, and sanctify{(H8690)} yourselves, and prepare{(H8685)} your brethren, that they may do{(H8800)} according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
7
And Josiah gave{(H8686)} to the people{H5971}, of the flock, lambs and kids{H5795}, all for the passover offerings, for all that were present{(H8737)}, to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand bullocks: these were of the king's substance.
8
And his princes gave{(H8689)} willingly unto the people, to the priests, and to the Levites: Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel, rulers of the house of God, gave{(H8804)} unto the priests for the passover offerings two thousand and six hundred small cattle, and three hundred oxen.
9
Conaniah also, and Shemaiah and Nethaneel, his brethren, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, chief of the Levites, gave{(H8689)} unto the Levites for passover offerings five thousand small cattle, and five hundred oxen.
10
So the service was prepared{(H8735)}, and the priests stood{(H8799)} in their place, and the Levites in their courses, according to the king's commandment.
11
And they killed{(H8799)} the passover, and the priests sprinkled{(H8799)} the blood from their hands, and the Levites flayed{(H8688)} them.
12
And they removed{(H8686)} the burnt offerings, that they might give{(H8800)} according to the divisions of the families{H1004} of the people{H5971}, to offer{(H8687)} unto the LORD, as it is written{(H8803)} in the book of Moses. And so did they with the oxen.
13
And they roasted{(H8762)} the passover with fire according to the ordinance: but the other holy offerings sod{(H8765)} they in pots, and in caldrons, and in pans, and divided them speedily{(H8686)} among all the people{H5971}.
14
And afterward they made ready{(H8689)} for themselves, and for the priests: because the priests the sons of Aaron were busied in offering{(H8687)} of burnt offerings and the fat until night; therefore the Levites prepared{(H8689)} for themselves, and for the priests the sons of Aaron.
15
And the singers{(H8789)} the sons of Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun the king's seer; and the porters waited at every gate; they might not depart{(H8800)} from their service; for their brethren the Levites prepared{(H8689)} for them.
16
So all the service of the LORD was prepared{(H8735)} the same day, to keep{(H8800)} the passover, and to offer{(H8687)} burnt offerings upon the altar of the LORD, according to the commandment of king Josiah.
17
And the children of Israel that were present{(H8737)} kept{(H8799)} the passover at that time, and the feast of unleavened bread seven days.
18
And there was no passover like to that kept{(H8738)} in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; neither did{(H8804)} all the kings of Israel keep{(H8804)} such a passover as Josiah kept{(H8804)}, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel that were present{(H8737)}, and the inhabitants{(H8802)} of Jerusalem.
19
In the eighteenth{H6240} year of the reign of Josiah was this passover kept{(H8738)}.
20
After all this, when Josiah had prepared{(H8689)} the temple, Necho king of Egypt came up{(H8804)} to fight{(H8736)} against Carchemish by Euphrates: and Josiah went out{(H8799)} against{(H8800)} him.
21
But he sent{(H8799)} ambassadors to him, saying{(H8800)}, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house wherewith I have war: for God commanded{(H8804)} me to make haste{(H8763)}: forbear{(H8798)} thee from meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy{(H8686)} thee not.
22
Nevertheless Josiah would not turn{(H8689)} his face from him, but disguised{(H8694)} himself, that he might fight{(H8736)} with him, and hearkened{(H8804)} not unto the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and came{(H8799)} to fight{(H8736)} in the valley of Megiddo.
23
And the archers{(H8802)} shot{(H8686)} at king Josiah; and the king said{(H8799)} to his servants, Have me away{(H8685)}; for I am sore wounded{(H8717)}.
24
His servants therefore took{(H8686)} him out of that chariot, and put{(H8686)} him in the second chariot that he had; and they brought{(H8686)} him to Jerusalem, and he died{(H8799)}, and was buried{(H8735)} in one of the sepulchres of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned{(H8693)} for Josiah.
25
And Jeremiah lamented{(H8787)} for Josiah: and all the singing men{(H8802)} and the singing women{(H8802)} spake{(H8799)} of Josiah in their lamentations to this day, and made{(H8799)} them an ordinance in Israel: and, behold, they are written{(H8803)} in the lamentations.
26
Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and his goodness, according to that which was written{(H8803)} in the law of the LORD,
27
And his deeds, first and last, behold, they are written{(H8803)} in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
