✦Strong's Interlinear
1
This second epistle, beloved, I now write{(G5719)} unto you; in both which I stir up{(G5719)} your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2
That ye may be mindful{(G5683)} of the words which were spoken before{(G5772)} by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3
Knowing{(G5723)} this first, that there shall come{(G5695)} in the last days scoffers, walking{(G5740)} after their own lusts,
4
And saying{(G5723)}, Where is{(G5748)} the promise of his coming? for since{G3739} the fathers fell asleep{(G5681)}, all things continue{G1265}{(G5719)} as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5
For this they willingly{(G5723)} are ignorant of{(G5719)}, that by the word of God the heavens were{(G5713)} of old, and the earth standing out{(G5761)} of the water and in the water:
6
Whereby{G3739} the world that then was, being overflowed{(G5685)} with water, perished{(G5639)}:
7
But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are{(G5748)} kept in store{(G5772)}, reserved{(G5746)} unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8
But, beloved, be not{G5209} ignorant{(G5720)} of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9
The Lord is not slack{(G5719)} concerning his promise, as some men count{(G5736)} slackness; but is longsuffering{(G5719)} to us-ward, not willing{(G5740)} that any should perish{(G5641)}, but that all should come{(G5658)} to repentance.
10
But the day of the Lord will come{(G5692)} as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away{(G5695)} with a great noise, and the elements shall melt{(G5701)} with fervent heat{(G5746)}, the earth also and the works that are therein{G846} shall be burned up{(G5691)}.
11
Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved{(G5746)}, what manner of persons ought{(G5748)} ye to be{(G5721)} in all holy conversation and godliness,
12
Looking for{(G5723)} and hasting{(G5723)} unto the coming of the day of God, wherein{G3739} the heavens being on fire{(G5746)} shall be dissolved{(G5701)}, and the elements shall melt{(G5743)} with fervent heat{(G5746)}?
13
Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for{(G5719)} new heavens and a new earth, wherein{G3739} dwelleth{(G5719)} righteousness.
14
Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for{(G5723)} such things, be diligent{(G5657)} that ye may be found{(G5683)} of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15
And account{(G5737)} that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given{(G5685)} unto him hath written{(G5656)} unto you;
16
As also in all his epistles, speaking{(G5723)} in them of these things; in which are{(G5748)} some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest{(G5719)}, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17
Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before{(G5723)}, beware{(G5732)} lest ye also, being led away{(G5685)} with the error of the wicked, fall from{(G5632)} your own stedfastness.
18
But grow{(G5720)} in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever{G2250}. Amen.
