Then verily the first covenant had{(G5707)} also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.

For there was a tabernacle made{(G5681)}; the first, wherein{G3739} was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread{G740}; which is called{(G5743)} the sanctuary.

And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called{(G5746)} the Holiest of all{G39};

Which had{(G5723)} the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid{(G5772)} round about with gold, wherein{G3739} was the golden pot that had{(G5723)} manna, and Aaron's rod that budded{(G5660)}, and the tables of the covenant;

And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing{(G5723)} the mercyseat; of which we cannot{G2076}{(G5748)} now speak{(G5721)} particularly{G3313}.

Now when these things were thus ordained{(G5772)}, the priests went{(G5748)} always into{G3303} the first tabernacle, accomplishing{(G5723)} the service of God.

But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered{(G5719)} for himself, and for the errors of the people:

The Holy Ghost this signifying{(G5723)}, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest{(G5771)}, while as the first tabernacle was{(G5723)} yet standing:

Which was a figure for the time then present{(G5761)}, in which were offered{(G5743)} both gifts and sacrifices, that could{(G5740)} not make him that did the service{(G5723)} perfect{(G5658)}, as pertaining to the conscience;

Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed{(G5740)} on them until the time of reformation.

But Christ being come{(G5637)} an high priest of good things to come{(G5723)}, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say{(G5748)}, not of this building;

Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in{(G5627)} once into the holy place, having obtained{(G5642)} eternal redemption for us.

For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling{(G5723)} the unclean{(G5772)}, sanctifieth{(G5719)} to the purifying of the flesh:

How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered{(G5656)} himself without spot to God, purge{(G5692)} your conscience from dead works to serve{(G5721)} the living{(G5723)} God?

And for this cause he is{(G5748)} the mediator of the new testament, that by means{(G5637)} of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called{(G5772)} might receive{(G5632)} the promise of eternal inheritance.

For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be{(G5745)} the death of the testator{(G5642)}.

For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength{(G5719)} at all while the testator{(G5642)} liveth{(G5719)}.

Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated{(G5769)} without blood.

For when Moses had spoken{(G5685)} every precept to all the people according to the law, he took{(G5631)} the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled{(G5656)} both the book{G846}, and all the people,

Saying{(G5723)}, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined{(G5662)} unto you.

Moreover{G3668} he sprinkled{(G5656)} with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.

And almost all things are by the law purged{(G5743)} with blood; and without shedding of blood is{(G5736)} no remission.

It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified{(G5745)} with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

For Christ is not entered{(G5627)} into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear{(G5683)} in the presence of God for us:

Nor yet that he should offer{(G5725)} himself often, as the high priest entereth{(G5736)} into the holy place every year with blood of others;

For then must{(G5713)} he often have suffered{(G5629)} since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared{(G5769)} to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

And as{G3745} it is appointed{(G5736)} unto men once to die{(G5629)}, but after this the judgment:

So Christ was once offered{(G5685)} to bear{(G5629)} the sins of many; and unto them that look{(G5740)} for him shall he appear{(G5701)} the second time without sin unto salvation.
