Romans 9

✦Strong's Interlinear
1
I say{(G5719)} the truth in Christ, I lie{(G5736)} not, my conscience also bearing me witness{(G5723)} in the Holy Ghost,
2
That I have{(G5748)} great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.
3
For I could wish{(G5711)} that myself were{(G5750)} accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
4
Who are{(G5748)} Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
5
Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who{(G5752)} is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
6
Not as though{G3754} the word of God hath taken none effect{(G5758)}. For they are not all{G1537} Israel, which{G3778} are of Israel:
7
Neither, because they are{(G5748)} the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called{(G5701)}.
8
That is{(G5748)}, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted{(G5736)} for the seed.
9
For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come{(G5695)}, and Sara shall have{(G5704)} a son.
10
And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one{G2192}{(G5723)}, even by our father Isaac;
11
(For the children being not yet born{(G5685)}, neither having done{(G5660)} any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand{(G5725)}, not of works, but of him that calleth{(G5723)};)
12
{G3754} It was said{(G5681)} unto her, The elder shall serve{(G5692)} the younger.
13
As it is written{(G5769)}, Jacob have I loved{(G5656)}, but Esau have I hated{(G5656)}.
14
What shall we say{(G5692)} then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid{G1096}{(G5636)}.
15
For he saith{(G5719)} to Moses, I will have mercy on{(G5692)} whom{G302} I will have mercy{(G5725)}, and I will have compassion{(G5692)} on whom{G302} I will have compassion{(G5725)}.
16
So then it is not of him that willeth{(G5723)}, nor of him that runneth{(G5723)}, but of God that sheweth mercy{(G5723)}.
17
For the scripture saith{(G5719)} unto Pharaoh, Even for{G1519} this same purpose have I raised thee up{(G5656)}, that I might shew{(G5672)} my power in thee, and that my name might be declared{(G5652)} throughout all the earth.
18
Therefore{G3767} hath he mercy{(G5719)} on whom he will{(G5719)} have mercy, and whom he will{(G5719)} he hardeneth{(G5719)}.
19
Thou wilt say{(G5692)} then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault{(G5736)}? For who hath resisted{(G5758)} his will?
20
Nay but, O man, who art{(G5748)} thou that repliest against{(G5740)} God? Shall the thing formed say{(G5692)} to him that formed{(G5660)} it, Why hast thou made{(G5656)} me thus?
21
{G2228} Hath{(G5719)} not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to{G3303} make{(G5658)} one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
22
What if{G1161} God, willing{(G5723)} to shew{(G5670)} his wrath, and to make his power known{(G5658)}, endured{(G5656)} with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted{(G5772)} to destruction:
23
And that he might make known{(G5661)} the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared{(G5656)} unto glory,
24
{G3739} Even us, whom he hath called{(G5656)}, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
25
As he saith{(G5719)} also in Osee, I will call{(G5692)} them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved{(G5772)}, which was not beloved{(G5772)}.
26
And it shall come to pass{(G5704)}, that in the place where{(G5625)} it was said{(G5681)} unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called{(G5701)} the children of the living{(G5723)} God.
27
Esaias also crieth{(G5719)} concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be{(G5753)} as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved{(G5701)}:
28
For he will finish{(G5723)} the work, and cut it short{(G5723)} in righteousness: because a short{(G5772)} work will the Lord make{(G5692)} upon the earth.
29
And as Esaias said before{(G5758)}, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left{(G5627)} us a seed, we had been{G1096}{(G5675)} as Sodoma, and been made like{G3666}{(G5681)} unto Gomorrha.
30
What shall we say{(G5692)} then? That the Gentiles, which followed{(G5723)} not after righteousness, have attained{(G5627)} to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
31
But Israel, which followed{(G5723)} after the law of righteousness, hath not attained{(G5656)} to the law of righteousness.
32
Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled{(G5656)} at that stumblingstone{G4348};
33
As it is written{(G5769)}, Behold{(G5628)}, I lay{(G5719)} in Sion a stumblingstone{G4348} and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth{(G5723)} on him shall not be ashamed{(G5701)}.
