1 Corinthians 7
KJV with Strongs (1611 / 1769)
✦Strong's Interlinear
1
Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote{(G5656)} unto me: It is good for a man not to touch{(G5733)} a woman.
2
Nevertheless{G1161}, to avoid fornication, let every man have{(G5720)} his own wife, and let every woman have{(G5720)} her own husband.
3
Let the husband render{(G5720)} unto the wife due{(G5746)} benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.
4
The wife hath not power{(G5719)} of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power{(G5719)} of his own body, but the wife.
5
Defraud ye{(G5720)} not one the other, except{G302} it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves{(G5725)} to fasting and prayer; and come{(G5741)} together{G846} again, that Satan tempt{(G5725)} you not for your incontinency.
6
But I speak{(G5719)} this by permission, and not of commandment.
7
For I would{(G5719)} that all men were{(G5750)} even as I myself. But every man hath{(G5719)} his proper gift of God, one{G3303} after this manner, and another after that.
8
I say{(G5719)} therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is{(G5748)} good for them if they abide{(G5661)} even as I.
9
But if they cannot contain{(G5736)}, let them marry{(G5657)}: for it is{(G5748)} better to marry{(G5658)} than to burn{(G5745)}.
10
And unto the married{(G5761)} I command{(G5719)}, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart{(G5683)} from her husband:
11
But and if she depart{(G5681)}, let her remain{(G5720)} unmarried, or be reconciled{(G5649)} to her husband: and let not the husband put away{(G5721)} his wife.
12
But to the rest speak{(G5719)} I, not the Lord: If any brother hath{(G5719)} a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased{(G5719)} to dwell{(G5721)} with him, let him not put her away{(G5720)}.
13
And the woman which hath{(G5719)} an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased{(G5719)} to dwell{(G5721)} with her, let her not leave{(G5720)} him.
14
For the unbelieving husband is sanctified{(G5769)} by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified{(G5769)} by the husband: else{G1893} were{(G5748)} your children unclean; but now are they{(G5748)} holy.
15
But if the unbelieving depart{(G5731)}, let him depart{(G5744)}. A brother or a sister is not under bondage{(G5769)} in such cases: but God hath called{(G5758)} us to peace.
16
For what knowest thou{(G5758)}, O wife, whether thou shalt save{(G5692)} thy husband? or how knowest thou{(G5758)}, O man, whether thou shalt save{(G5692)} thy wife?
17
But as God hath distributed{(G5656)} to every man, as the Lord hath called{(G5758)} every one, so let him walk{(G5720)}. And so ordain I{(G5731)} in all churches.
18
Is any man called{(G5681)} being circumcised{(G5772)}? let him not become uncircumcised{(G5737)}. Is any called{(G5681)} in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised{(G5744)}.
19
Circumcision is{(G5748)} nothing, and uncircumcision is{(G5748)} nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.
20
Let every man abide{(G5720)} in the same calling wherein{G3739} he was called{(G5681)}.
21
Art thou called{(G5681)} being a servant? care{G4671} not for it{(G5720)}: but if thou mayest{(G5736)} be made{(G5635)} free, use{(G5663)} it rather.
22
For he that is called{(G5685)} in the Lord, being a servant, is{(G5748)} the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called{(G5685)}, being free, is{(G5748)} Christ's servant.
23
Ye are bought{(G5681)} with a price; be not ye{(G5737)} the servants of men.
24
Brethren, let every man, wherein{G3739} he is called{(G5681)}, therein{G5129} abide{(G5720)} with God.
25
Now concerning virgins I have{(G5719)} no commandment of the Lord: yet I give{(G5719)} my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy{(G5772)} of the Lord to be{(G5750)} faithful.
26
I suppose{(G5719)} therefore that this is{(G5721)} good for the present{(G5761)} distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be{(G5750)}.
27
Art thou bound{(G5769)} unto a wife? seek{(G5720)} not to be loosed. Art thou loosed{(G5769)} from a wife? seek{(G5720)} not a wife.
28
But and if thou marry{(G5661)}, thou hast not sinned{(G5627)}; and if a virgin marry{(G5661)}, she hath not sinned{(G5627)}. Nevertheless such shall have{(G5692)} trouble in the flesh: but I spare{(G5736)} you.
29
But this I say{(G5748)}, brethren, the time is short{(G5772)}: it remaineth{(G5748)}, that both they that have{(G5723)} wives be{(G5753)} as though they had{(G5723)} none;
30
And they that weep{(G5723)}, as though they wept{(G5723)} not; and they that rejoice{(G5723)}, as though they rejoiced{(G5723)} not; and they that buy{(G5723)}, as though they possessed{(G5723)} not;
31
And they that use{(G5740)} this world, as not abusing{(G5740)} it: for the fashion of this world passeth away{(G5719)}.
32
But I would have{(G5750)}{(G5719)} you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth{(G5719)} for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please{(G5692)} the Lord:
33
But he that is married{(G5660)} careth{(G5719)} for the things that are of the world, how he may please{(G5692)} his wife.
34
There is difference also between{(G5769)} a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for{(G5719)} the things of the Lord, that she may be{(G5753)} holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married{(G5660)} careth{(G5719)} for the things of the world, how she may please{(G5692)} her husband.
35
And this I speak{(G5719)} for your own profit{(G5723)}; not that I may cast{(G5632)} a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.
36
But if any man think{(G5719)} that he behaveth himself uncomely{(G5721)} toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age{G5600}{(G5753)}, and need{(G5719)} so require{(G5738)}, let him do{(G5720)} what he will{(G5719)}, he sinneth{(G5719)} not: let them marry{(G5720)}.
37
Nevertheless he that standeth{(G5707)}{(G5758)} stedfast in his heart, having{(G5723)} no necessity, but hath{(G5719)} power over his own will, and hath so decreed{(G5758)} in his heart that he will keep{(G5721)} his virgin, doeth{(G5719)} well.
38
So then he that giveth her in marriage{(G5723)} doeth{(G5719)} well; but he that giveth her not in marriage{(G5723)} doeth{(G5719)} better.
39
The wife is bound{(G5769)} by the law{G1909} as long as her husband liveth{(G5719)}; but if her husband be dead{(G5686)}, she is{(G5748)} at liberty to be married{(G5683)} to whom she will{(G5719)}; only in the Lord.
40
But she is{(G5748)} happier if she so abide{(G5661)}, after my judgment: and I think{(G5719)} also that I have{(G5721)} the Spirit of God.
