Hear{(H8798)} ye this word which I take up{(H8802)} against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel.

The virgin of Israel is fallen{(H8804)}; she shall no more{(H8686)} rise{(H8800)}: she is forsaken{(H8738)} upon her land; there is none to raise her up{(H8688)}.

For thus saith{(H8804)} the Lord GOD; The city that went out{(H8802)} by a thousand shall leave{(H8686)} an hundred, and that which went forth{(H8802)} by an hundred shall leave{(H8686)} ten, to the house of Israel.

For thus saith{(H8804)} the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek{(H8798)} ye me, and ye shall live{(H8798)}:

But seek{(H8799)} not Bethel, nor enter{(H8799)} into Gilgal, and pass{(H8799)} not to Beersheba: for Gilgal shall surely{(H8800)} go into captivity{(H8799)}, and Bethel shall come to nought.

Seek{(H8798)} the LORD, and ye shall live{(H8798)}; lest he break out{(H8799)} like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour{(H8804)} it, and there be none to quench{(H8764)} it in Bethel.

Ye who turn{(H8802)} judgment to wormwood, and leave off{(H8689)} righteousness in the earth,

Seek him that maketh{(H8802)} the seven stars and Orion, and turneth{(H8802)} the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark{(H8689)} with night: that calleth{(H8802)} for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out{(H8799)} upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:

That strengtheneth{(H8688)} the spoiled against the strong, so that the spoiled shall come{(H8799)} against the fortress.

They hate{(H8804)} him that rebuketh{(H8688)} in the gate, and they abhor{(H8762)} him that speaketh{(H8802)} uprightly.

Forasmuch therefore as your treading{(H8780)} is upon the poor, and ye take{(H8799)} from him burdens of wheat: ye have built{(H8804)} houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell{(H8799)} in them; ye have planted{(H8804)} pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink{(H8799)} wine of them.

For I know{(H8804)} your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict{(H8802)} the just, they take{(H8802)} a bribe, and they turn aside{(H8689)} the poor in the gate from their right.

Therefore the prudent{(H8688)} shall keep silence{(H8799)} in that time; for it is an evil time.

Seek{(H8798)} good, and not evil, that ye may live{(H8799)}: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken{(H8804)}.

Hate{(H8798)} the evil, and love{(H8798)} the good, and establish{(H8685)} judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious{(H8799)} unto the remnant of Joseph.

Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith{(H8804)} thus; Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say{(H8799)} in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call{(H8804)} the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful{(H8802)} of lamentation to wailing.

And in all vineyards shall be wailing: for I will pass{(H8799)} through thee, saith{(H8804)} the LORD.

Woe unto you that desire{(H8693)} the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.

As if a man did flee{(H8799)} from a lion, and a bear met{(H8804)} him; or went{(H8804)} into the house, and leaned{(H8804)} his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit{(H8804)} him.

Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

I hate{(H8804)}, I despise{(H8804)} your feast days, and I will not smell{(H8686)} in your solemn assemblies.

Though ye offer{(H8686)} me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept{(H8799)} them: neither will I regard{(H8686)} the peace offerings of your fat beasts.

Take thou away{(H8685)} from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear{(H8799)} the melody of thy viols.

But let judgment run down{(H8735)} as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.

Have ye offered{(H8689)} unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?

But ye have borne{(H8804)} the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made{(H8804)} to yourselves.

Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity{(H8689)} beyond Damascus, saith{(H8804)} the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.
